This was partly designed by one of my co-workers at the aerospace firm we both worked at as electronic technicians. The large slot provides finger access, allowing the phone to be easily slid out of the holster. It was made out of 9 ounce leather to protect the phone better than the thin glove leather you frequently see elsewhere. It was my very first "from-scratch" work. The design has proven very popular.

A friend was doing a "redneck captain" costume for one of the science fiction conventions, for which he needed a "hand-tooled leather phaser holster." This simple design, stitched together in an afternoon won me a Best Workmanship award at the Journeyman level.
This same friend needed a holster for his newly-acquired pistol, and his birthday was coming up. Another early effort, it has two of his interests represented: the Celtic knotwork design on much of the holster, and over the trigger guard, his name in Klingon lettering. It's scary to have armed friends who read Klingon almost as fluently as they do English!
